If you are selling produce to the public at the same market why should I pay ahead of time for membership?Members receive a 25% discount on all the vegetables they select. For example, if a member pays $300 for membership, they can receive $400 in produce. They also receive an email several days ahead of time with a list of what we will be selling at the market. Another handy perk is that they can request us to custom pack a bag ahead of time. This may be very helpful during times when some produce is in high demand.
What if you run out of vegetable before I get there? That is a possibility because other members will be picking up produce, and we will be selling what we can to the general public at current market prices. You may want to have us prepack your bag if this becomes a problem.
Can I choose which vegetables I want and which I do not want?
Yes, members have the freedom to choose what they want and how much they want. You have to remember that others can do the same. If there is a "run" on a vegetable, people who get there early have the advantage. You may have to come again next market day or request that we prepack a bag for you.
Can you prepack a bag for me?Yes, but you must let us know 3 days in advance. There will be a charge of $1.50 to cover our time spent custom packing your bag. Orders for a prepacked bag will be filled in a first ordered, first served basis.
Where are the markets located? On Wednesdays mornings from 10am-1pm, we will be in Clayton at the Rootcellar on Savannah Street. On Saturday from 9am-12, we will be at the Simple Homegrown Market in front of Butlers II on Main street. A members only pickup is provided within the city limits of Hiawassee. We currently do not have enough interest to justify a full market in Hiawassee. We would like to have a market on Friday near Lake Burton. Keep an eye on this website for more details.
What kind of prices will you have at the market? Here is an example. Carrot bunch, $1.50; head of romaine lettuce, $3; bag of beans, $1.50; bag of arugula, $3.
Why is there no refund "for any reason"?To begin with our CSA program may not be for everyone, and we have limited space. We depend on the CSA to cover our basic living for the year. We would rather leave the memberships available for those folks who want to commit to us for a whole season. Our members share some of our risks and many of our rewards. For example, if there is a hail storm that wipes out our crops, then we will replant and our members will receive produce again when it is ready. We make our living delivering produce, not taking money!
What if I am out of town for awhile? We will be delivering produce from May and slacking off after October. We have produce thru December, just in limited quantities and types. You could miss quite a few weeks and still use up all your membership credit. Just keep that in mind when you determine how much above the minimum you want to pay.
What if I do not use all my membership credit? It is your responsibility to make sure you use all your credit during the produce season. Come every week or even a couple times a week as you have need. Any credit left over after 2008 will go to support a good organic farm (us)!
Is there any guarantee that you will have produce for so many weeks? There are no guarantees in farming. Many experienced farmers say there is no such thing as a normal year. With that said, we do our best to provide produce during the entire growing season. We may miss a market day or two during the entire year for such things like wedding anniversaries and other important events. As a member, you will be made aware of what is going with the farm. We will be delivering produce from May and slacking off after October. We have produce thru December, just in limited quantities and types.
